Yotanwa Shouldn’t Be A Great General Of The Heavens

The Mountain tribes don’t have a lot in common with the people of Qin.

They are basically a different nation, and so, when you think about it. It doesn’t really make sense that Yotanwa, the Queen of another nation, is serving as a Great General in the King of Qin’s Army.

That’s why, we’re going to use this post to talk about her character as a whole, the nature of Mountain tribes, the reason why she hasn’t been as impressive as the other Great Generals and also discuss whether or not there is a more appropriate role for her in the story.

I’m sure that the author knows this as well.

This is why she mostly plays a “Support” OR “Last time rescue” role during Wars.

The thing about Yotanwa is that she is legit KING material.

She united over 100 mountain tribes in the mountains situated at the West of Qin. This is how she became the Queen of the mountain trains and earned the moniker “Lord of Death.”

The mountain tribes fear her as the lord of death but also adore her as their queen.

Now, we also know that Yotanwa may have united so many mountain tribes already but when she went north to wage war on the Xiongnu tribes, she found out that they had all been defeated by Riboku already.

Her goals aligned with Ei Sei because while he is planning on unifying all of China, her goal is to unify all of the Mountain tribes.

Both seek a better, more peaceful world.

What I’m trying to say is that while Mou Bu, Ou Sen, and Tou can be considered Vessels of the King, she is more of an ally than a general.

Yes, she has helped out the Qin army on plenty of occasions and she did accept the role of a Great General, but we can’t ignore the underlying tunes when it comes to her role in the story.

The way I see it, the manga hasn’t treated this seriously enough.

Mountain tribes are proud by their very nature.

They would fight an enemy, yes. But it’s kind of strange how we haven’t seen any criticism from the members of her army. It probably happened, but offscreen, and it’s not like Yotanwa doesn’t have the Charisma or Leadership skills to shut down any opposition.

I mean this lady has a complete 100 when it comes to her Leadership stats.

Her Strength is weighted at 95 and her Intelligence at 96.

Speaking of her experience, it’s “S.”

Plus, the value of her beauty cannot be understated either.

It literally says, “The Enemies Shall Die To Her Beauty.”

Believe it or not, if we strictly go by the stats, Yotanwa is the best General in Qin’s Army right now. Though stats aren’t everything and of course, as we discussed in another post, Tou is the Best Great General still alive.

Going back to the mountain tribes and their Pride.

It is easy to understand why Yotanwa showed up with her army and saved the King at the City of Sai, but now it’s an everyday thing for her tribes to fight for Qin. It’s like they have forgotten their own independence and become a part of Qin.

Not saying that it’s wrong, just that we need to understand the Mountain Tribes better.

Just like the Central plains, the Mountain Tribes have been in their own Warring States Era. There has been constant fighting for territories for a long time.

Thankfully, Yotanwa came and united them under a Single leader, but before that, it was complete Chaos in the mountains.

Though what we’re talking about here is something different.

The mountain tribes becoming a permanent part of Qin’s army means the mountain tribes are getting civilized.

One way this makes sense is when you consider that the end goal of Ei Sei is to unify all of China.

By all, we mean “all of it.”

Including all the mountain tribes.

It’s like this, if Sei’s plan is to unify all of China then having the Mountain tribes be a part of his own army and having their Queen as a Great General means that all of the mountain tribes in Qin have already unified with Qin.

Impressive indeed.

While Yotanwa has an alliance with the King, she is also a vessel, both literally and figuratively.

Literally because she is a General in the King’s army.

And figuratively because all of her tribes are also going to be a part of the Unified China he is envisioning.

It’s not like she wants to be the King of unified China.

In a lot of ways, she has the same idealistic visions as Sei.

Now, considering all of this, does it make sense for Yotanwa to be a Great General of the Heavens?

Well, to be honest, it kind of does. Making her a Great General in the army that is going to unify all of China is basically the best title for Yotanwa, but then again, much like how Shin is Ei Sei’s friend when you take off their titles, she is a fellow King who is in alliance with Ei Sei.

For Yotanwa, her goals were to unite the mountain tribes and to broaden the mountain world horizons.

It’s safe to say that she is WINNING.

But still, as I said before, I don’t think the manga has explored her story as well as it could have. The mountain tribes are often used as a plot device. We need a story for them on par with the story we got about Kanki and his tribe of bandits.

We need more characterization and introspection of Yotanwa’s character.

Otherwise, her character and the story of the mountain tribes would continue to suffer from the “tell, don’t show” problem. The stats and her previous accomplishments aren’t as relevant.

We want to see her being just as impressive as Kanki and Ousen on screen.

And I’m sure it will happen.

The Kingdom manga is far from over.

Tou and Yotanwa are soon going to get their moments to shine.
