Gojo Vs. Sukuna is the Most Ambitious Showdown In Modern Day Shonen

The Honored One Vs. The Disgraced One: Indeed, Gojo Vs. Sukuna is the most ambitious showdown in Modern Day Shonen.

On one hand you have the Strongest Sorcerer alive, the master of both Limitless and the Six Eyes, the pinnacle of the Gojo family, the Self-Proclaimed “Honored One,” Gojo Satoru.

On the other hand, you have the King of Curses, the man who was acknowledged by the Narrator himself to be the Disgraced One, Ryumen Sukuna.

For the longest time, us Jujutsu Kaisen fans have wondered how a battle between these two near invincible figures would look like and guess the manga is finally treating us to dinner.

Now, I guess this is the part where I step in to remind you that this article is going to contain some heavy spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

If you aren’t caught up to it, I’d recommend proceeding with caution or you’ll be blown away by where this story has taken us.

Well then, let’s talk about it.

The first time Gojo and Sukuna exchanged blows was when he reincarnated thanks to Yuji’s unhealthy consumption of a cursed object. Of course, Sukuna was still only 1/20th his full strength, but it was still amazing to see Gojo absolutely steamroll the supposed “King of Curses.”

But that was still the very beginning of the story.

We knew next to nothing about Gojo, Sukuna, or even the nature of Jujutsu for that matter.

It was cool to see, but the lack of context doesn’t always get your blood running. But now, things have changed. Sukuna has taken over Fushigoro Megumi’s body and is now capable of using the legendary Ten Shadows Technique of the Zenin Clan, and he is also close to his full strength.

Keep in mind that Sukuna still hasn’t consumed the last remaining finger and we have no idea where it is.

Then there is Gojo, who was sealed in the Prison Realm and just recently made it out thanks to everyone’s help.

Now, as far as time in the Jujutsu Kaisen verse is concerned, he was only sealed for 19 days, but for us readers, it was more than three years of endless waiting.

He was sealed in Chapter 90 and then made it out in Chapter 221.

For us, that were over 1185 days.

The hype is about as real as it can get.

So far, it has only been a couple of chapters or so since Gojo made it out of the Prison Realm, their battle has started, but we don’t even know Sukuna’s cursed technique, and that’s why, we’re going to be doing a little bit speculating here.

Who will win?

When Itadori asked Gojo who’d win between them, Gojo stated, that Sukuna were to regain all of his powers, it may be a little tough, but he won’t lose.

However, if there is one thing Jujutsu Kaisen fans have learnt over the years is that this story is no fairy tale. The author has no problem emotionally torturing you either by inflicting extreme trauma on your favorite character or just straight up killing them.

Personally, with the way things are going, I lean more towards the idea that Sukuna is going to take this one.

Unlike Sukuna, who exists merely for the sake of his own pleasure and displeasure, Gojo still has a weakness. It’s a worthy weakness though – I’m talking about is the fact that Gojo has his humanity.

While Sukuna will never have a problem with moral extremes, Gojo isn’t completely heartless or completely selfish.

The reason he was sealed in the first place is because he didn’t want to use his domain expansion “Infinite Void,” amidst all those people, and now, Sukuna is using Megumi’s body.

Gojo is basically Megumi’s guardian.

I wonder how far he’ll be willing to go as far as this fight is concerned.

Though from the looks of it, it does seem as though Gojo isn’t planning on going easy, even if it’s Megumi.

But I’m afraid the rabbit hole goes deeper than just his relationship with Megumi.

Back in the past, the previous users of Six Eyes and the Ten Shadows Technique killed each other in a brutal showdown to the death, it was the head of the Gojo family vs the head of the Zenin clan in a fight before the aristocracy.

And now, Satoru Gojo is the user of Six Eyes, while Megumi, who is being used as a vessel by Sukuna, inherited the Ten Shadows Technique. Gojo may be the strongest, but he has mentioned many times that his students have the potential to surpass him.

One of those students is Megumi Fushigoro.

There is a reason Sukuna had been so obsessed with Megumi from the beginning. It’s because his trained eye could immediately see what Megumi’s potential could be.

So just like how Gojo is probably the first one to properly utilize the inherited techniques of the Gojo family as well as he did, what if the first time the Zenin clan reaches its pinnacle is when Sukuna is using one of them as a vessel?

If it’s HIM, he can definitely bring out the true potential of the Zenin clan.

Not to mention, Sukuna still hasn’t revealed his innate cursed technique yet.

He has already differentiated himself from the rest by showing us his domain expansion, “Malevolent Shrine.”

But what’s the differentiator?

Gojo himself has a pretty overpowered domain, the moment you are caught up inside, you are done.

It’s like pressing the Game Over button in a video game.

Once Gojo uses his domain expansion, the game is over.

However, what really differentiates Malevolent Shrine isn’t the nature of the technique, it’s how it is executed.

Malevolent Shrine differs from other types of domain expansion in that it doesn’ create a separate space using a barrier.

Rather, Sukuna can have the same sure-hit effect without using a barrier.

As the narrator himself said,

“The ability to realize one’s innate domain using a barrier is akin to an artist painting a masterpiece not on a canvas, but on air.

A truly divine technique.”

Another point to consider is how Gojo is not the protagonist of the story.

It’s Itadori and Megumi.

But then again, Jujutsu Kaisen doesn’t follow traditional Shonen storytelling.

We can most certainly expect the author to pull one over us.

Gojo is extraordinary, the strongest sorcerer alive, but with the way things are, he is going to lose against Sukuna.

I mean, he wore the same outfits as Toji when he headed to battle and we know how that ended for Toji. Plus, even when Gojo uses his Hollow Purple at 200 percent output, it hardly did any long term damage to Sukuna.

If you discount one broken arm, that is.

But it’s Sukuna, he regenerated it right away.

I highly doubt Gojo is going to grow even more than he already has, but with Sukuna and Megumi, there is still so much potential. Again, the author hasn’t even revealed Sukuna’s innate cursed technique.

We don’t know much about his cursed techniques other than cleave and dismantle.

And I guess there is also that fire ability he used?

Finally, the question about which one of them is the honored one?

In chapter 75, Gojo himself declared that throughout Heaven and Earth, he alone is the honored one.

But in chapter 30, the narrator told us that throughout heaven and Earth, the Honored one is Sukuna.

Usually, when one would compare these two panels, they’d lean more towards Sukuna as “The Honored One,” because unlike Gojo, he didn’t have to say it himself.

But during the Culling Game Arc, Sukuna revealed that he is the Disgraced One?

Well then, which one is it?

I guess only time will tell.

The story does like portraying Sukuna as an Enlightened Individual though, he knows that his will alone is what matters, while Gojo cares about his students and is “inherently good,” Sukuna is a menace.

Let’s see how their battle unfolds.

Though one thing is for sure, this ongoing battle isn’t ending without its fair share of tragedies.

The story is heading towards the climax after all.

It’s also why, “Gojo Vs. Sukuna is the Most Ambitious Showdown In Modern Day Shonen.”

That’s all folks!
